Who we are

Paulettes Story

Paulette Mary Eva Bernadette Laliberte was born to a family of 8 near Radville, Saskatchewan.  After working with a local naturopath for 12 years, an offer to be Store Manager with Nutter's Natural Foods was too interesting to pass up.

Since working with Nutter's, Paulette's passion for helping others is undeniable.  Whether it is in her educating others in the healing properties of essential oils, her understanding of healing remedies, sharing her Kombucha recipes and sprouting methods, Kefir grain techniques, her development of Vision Boards and Affirmative Living, her love for telling stories about the grandkids, Paulette always has  an adventure to share.

Continuing to improve her natural skill set, Paulette enrolled with Essence of Thyme, to be certified in Aromatherapy.  She is currently completing an internship with Centre for Aromatherapy Research and Education (CARE) to provide our clients with pure therapeutic grade essential oil Aromatherapy and offering a healing Raindrop Technique, a combination of three modalities

  • Aromatherapy – Raindrop technique uses seven single essential oils, two blends and one essential oil massage blend during the session. It is congruent with the French application of aromatherapy where essential oils are applied NEAT (undiluted) to the body.

  • Vita Flex Technique - Vita-Flex was brought to the US in the 1920s by Stanley Burroughs. It is an ancient Tibetan healing methodology meaning "vitality through the reflexes". Its theory is based on the fact that slight pressure applied to the body creates an electric charge that is therapeutic to the body. This is known as piezoelectric.

  • Feather Stroking - This is similar to a massage term technique called effleurage.   A similar use of Feather Stroking is used in the Indigenous ceremonial smudge which is still practiced today.

Kevins Story

Hello, my name is Kevin Ward and Stonecross Retreat has been a dream of ours individually for over 30 years.  The dream came alive when Kevin opened BC Trauma Resolution Centre in Salmon Arm in 2008. Kevin has helped over 150 clients find more peace while on their journey, most have eliminated the negative emotional charge, of the traumas they presented to be worked on, throughout the Traumatic Incident Reduction and Life Stress Reduction process over the last 5 years.

Kevin's horse adventure began before he was two years old by his older brothers and his parents.  When he was 5 yrs. the Traditional teachings of the Spirit of the Horse, were introduced to him by Willie Lavavre and other Paiute-Shoshone elders, on Diamond W Ranch near Fallon Nevada.  At that time he began training and showing his horses (Cheeta, Thucko, Snowball, Kickapoo, and his companion for 26 years, his Spanish mustang Domino.)  By the time he was 10 yrs. old he was the Navada State high point Western Rider for his age group and winning is over 100 different events, including vaulting and cutting horse divisions.  Kevin's love for working with horses became second nature and performed some events bareback and others without bridle or halter, only a saddle.  Trick riding also became a favourite past-time, when not performing in rodeos and gymkhanas in Nevada and California.

Kevin's interest in helping others was instinctual and the natural direction was into helping people as a career.  He graduated in 1979 with a B.Sc. degree in Youth & Family Programming, from Oklahoma Christian University before continuing his Graduate Studies in Clinical Counselling at Pepperdine University and the University of Victoria in Victoria, BC.  Kevin has maintained professional affiliation with the B.C. Association of Clinical Counsellors since 1990.  After 15 years of youth and family systems counselling, Kevin began specializing in traditional indigenous approaches to resolving trauma and anxiety.  In 2005, Kevin became a Traumatic Incident Reduction and Life Stress Reduction facilitator, working with PTSD and other traumatic issues.  The combination of using horses (mules) in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy took on a formal role when he was certified by Equine Assisted Growth And Learning Association (EAGALA) in both mental health (MH) and equine specialist (ES) roles.  STONECROSS RETREAT came about when Kevin and Paulette were married in 2013 and joined their abilities to serve family, friends and others who wanted more peace in their life.
